Fort Simpson RCMP respond to a shooting

The Fort Simpson RCMP is responding to a shooting in the community which left one person injured. According to preliminary information, this appears to be a targeted incident. At this time, no immediate risk to the public has been identified.

At approximately 1:40 a.m., on Friday, August 14th, the Fort Simpson RCMP received a call about a man who had been shot in the backyard of a residence.

Officers responded to the scene and attended to the victim, who was transported to the local health centre and then transferred to Yellowknife for further medical treatment.

An investigation has been launched with support from several units, including the Yellowknife General Investigation Section, the Major Crimes Unit, the Forensic Identification Services, the Territorial Crime Reduction Unit and the Police Dog Services.

The RCMP believe that the shooting was targeted.

The investigation is ongoing.
