Charges laid after Fort Good Hope RCMP respond to report of shots fired

One person is in custody after officers in Fort Good Hope responded to a report of a person firing a gun at a house in the community.

On August 30 at approximately 1:24 a.m. Fort Good Hope RCMP received a report that a person had fired multiple shots at a residence in the community. The house was said to be occupied at the time by multiple people, including 3 children, however no injuries were reported.

Officers immediately responded and quickly located the suspect at another residence a short distance away, where he was arrested without incident.

Investigation indicated that the incident was isolated and stemmed from an altercation that had occurred between the suspect and a person at the scene of the offence prior to the shots being fired.

As a result, 38-year-old Lindsey McNeely of Fort Good Hope has been charged with:

• Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code
• Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code
• Careless use of a firearm, contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
• Discharging a firearm while being reckless, contrary to section 244.2(3) of the Criminal Code
• 2 counts of discharging a firearm with intent, contrary to section 244 of the Criminal Code
• 3 counts of failure to comply with a release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Mischief to property over $5000, contrary to section 430(3) of the Criminal Code
• Pointing a firearm, contrary to section 87(1) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code
• Using a firearm in the commission of an offence, contrary to section 85(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Uttering threats against a person, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

At the time of his arrest, Lindsey McNeely was already out on bail and subject to release conditions.

He appeared in court for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody.
