Charges laid after Yellowknife RCMP seize drugs and cash during search warrant

Two people are in custody after Yellowknife RCMP executed a search warrant as part of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation.
In August of 2026, Yellowknife RCMP entered into a drug-trafficking investigation after receiving information from the public about an apartment on 52 Avenue in Yellowknife.

On September 1, a search warrant was obtained and executed on the apartment, with assistance from Yellowknife General Investigation Section. Two individuals were arrested without incident.

The search yielded over $34,000 in cash and approximately 53 grams of suspected crack cocaine.

28-year-old Natnael Gebrehiwot Afeworki of Calgary, Alberta and 28-year-old Skylynn Cook of Fort Good Hope, NT have been charged with:

• Trafficking a controlled substance, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

They both appeared in court and were remanded into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
