The Northwest Territories RCMP are pleased to inform the public of the expansion of the RCMP’s Experienced Peace Officer Program (ExPO), a brand-new approach to recruiting experienced officers. The program originally launched in British Columbia and Yukon in July 2026 and is now expanding into other areas, including Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

The RCMP recognizes the value experienced peace officers bring with their existing skills, knowledge and previous work experience within the law enforcement community. By welcoming peace officers from a variety of backgrounds, the RCMP is strengthening its team while also creating an exciting option for experienced peace officers to move forward with a career in policing.

To apply for the ExPO, individuals must:

• Be actively serving as a firearm-trained peace officer at a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal agency and have been serving for the past three years;
• Be firearms-trained and certified;
• Meet all qualifications and requirements of a regular member applicant; and
• Successfully pass the RCMP Police Fitness Assessment to the gold standard.

Applications are open for the next intake of experienced peace officers to join the RCMP. Qualified officers currently residing in Alberta, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut can contact ExPO at KExPO-APEx@rcmp-grc.gc.ca to begin the application process.

Quotes

“The ExPO program is a reflection of the RCMP’s ongoing commitment to modernizing recruitment and attracting experienced talent. By welcoming qualified peace officers into our ranks, we are enhancing our ability to serve Canadians and respond effectively to the evolving needs of the communities we serve.”
