Parkland RCMP responds to vehicle collision with daycare - update

Stony Plain, Alta. – Parkland RCMP would like to advise the public that the evacuation order for the area around the daycare has been lifted as Atco has deemed it safe. 48 street should reopen for travel in the area shortly though police will remain on scene to continue their investigation.
Though investigation is ongoing, initial information obtained by RCMP revealed that there were 18 children and 2 adults in the daycare. An employee in their 20s was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the full-size white van was in their 30s and was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Our initial focus is on public safety. Now that the scene is stable, we will continue our investigation into the collision, including the actions of the driver leading up to the incident.” said Insp. Kevin McGillivray, Detachment Commander of the Parkland RCMP. “We want to take this moment to thank the employees of the daycare for working so quickly to ensure the safety of the children in their care. The actions of these workers, as well as quick response from our partners at the Stony Plain Fire Department, were instrumental to ensuring the safety of all involved.”
Parkland RCMP are seeking public assistance in this investigation.
