Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit charge individual in 2020 Chestermere homicide – update

Chestermere, Alta. – Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has charged two additional people in relation to the 2020 murder of a Chestermere resident. An 18-year-old resident of Chestermere, died in hospital on April 6, 2020, after an April 3, 2020, incident.
On July 7, 2025, a 24-year-old resident of Conrich, Alta., was arrested and charged with first degree murder and attempted murder. The police investigation showed the individual deliver a mixture of cough syrup and fentanyl to the deceased, which they consumed. It is alleged the substance was also intended for a 25-year-old Calgary resident. Whome did not receive or consume the substance and was unharmed.
Further investigation has determined that a 24-year-old resident of Edmonton, and a 33-year-old resident of Rockyview County, were both parties to the offence.
On July 16, 2026, both individuals were charged with the following:
- First degree murder; and
- Attempted murder.
With support of the Fugitive Apprehension Sheriff Support Team (FASST), the Edmonton resident was arrested on July 22, 2026, in Edmonton. Following a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing, they were remanded into custody. Their next appearance is scheduled for Aug. 10, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
With support of the Calgary Police Service Gang Suppression Team, the Rockey Mountain resident surrendered to police and was arrested in Calgary on July 24, 2026. Following a JIR hearing, the individual was remanded into custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 7, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
