Background on the RCMP's response to the Bastarache Report

Following the release of the Bastarache Report in November 2020, the RCMP undertook immediate action on its recommendations. The Commissioner's statement about the Bastarache Report and the official RCMP response were published the day the Report was released. The response outlined several actions aligned with the Bastarache recommendations that were already underway. Since then, progress on many related initiatives have been documented on the Change at the RCMP webpages. The RCMP has also reported on its progress to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU).

The Management Advisory Board (MAB) for the RCMP has played a significant role in advancing progress on key culture change and reform recommendations from the Bastarache Report. This advisory board provides advice and guidance to the RCMP Commissioner on modernization and management matters, including the externalization of the Independent Centre for Harassment Resolution (ICHR).

The new progress tracker has been created in response to public calls for more accountability and transparency. It provides clear information on the work done to date and currently underway to address the issues raised in the Bastarache Report, and will be updated twice per year to show our progress. Additional information can be found in Position Notes, which will be added over time.
