Salary, benefits and pension
As an experienced police officer, you will receive the same competitive benefits and pensions as all RCMP police officers.
We are unable to provide pension estimates related to transfer of pension from your current police service or agency. We recommend you discuss your existing pension options with your current employer.
Career options
The RCMP has three policing mandates; Indigenous, Provincial, Territorial and Municipal Policing, Specialized Policing, and Federal Policing services. Experienced police officers may express interest in any service line.
Indigenous, Provincial, Territorial and Municipal Policing services are provided in all provinces and territories, except Ontario and Quebec:
- general duty investigations
- police dog services
- indigenous policing and investigations
- detachment analysis
- emergency response team services
- underwater recovery
National Specialized Services provides services in:
- forensic analysis
- managing the Canadian Firearms Program
- criminal records
- advanced police technology
- combatting child sexual exploitation
- locating missing persons
- delivery of National Police Services (NPS)
Federal Policing provides services in:
- border integrity
- cybercrime
- criminal intelligence
- financial crime
- protective policing
- serious and organized crime
Your posting will be based on your career interests, police experience, and current operational needs.
Vacation entitlements
Your years of prior police service will be recognized for vacation entitlements upon proof of employment.
Basic requirements for Experienced Police Officers
To apply as an experienced police officer at the RCMP, you must meet the following basic and essential requirements:
- have a minimum of two years full-time Canadian police service employment or equivalent (equivalent is defined as any police service employment, full-time or part-time, that amounts to a total of 2 years' full-time police service employment)
- have graduated from a police training program at a recognized Canadian police training institution (Canadian Armed Forces Military Police must have successfully completed the basic police training — Qualification Level 3 — after January 1, 2001)
- meet the minimum level for the 9 required general duty competencies according to the RCMP Competency Dictionary
- must be actively serving or have served within the last three years
- meet the language profile of the position you will occupy
- meet all qualifications and requirements of a Regular Member applicant.
