Volunteer programs

Volunteers at the RCMP

Volunteers play an important role in the successful delivery of community policing services. Their work is especially important at the detachment level, where they work closely with police officers, staff, and community clients.

Our volunteer programs serve as a support and complement to our workforce. Volunteers do not perform law enforcement or operational duties performed by police officers.

What RCMP volunteers do

Volunteers assist in nearly every aspect of community policing; here are just a few examples:

  • Block Watch
  • Operation Red Nose
  • Bike Rodeos and Patrols
  • Airport and Coastal Watches
  • Auxiliary Program
  • Search and Rescue
  • Pipes and Drums Band
  • Victim Services Program
  • Community Advisory Committee
  • Citizens on Patrol
  • Community Police Offices

Auxiliary Program

The Auxiliary Program offers community-minded Canadians an opportunity to volunteer in support of local policing, crime prevention and public safety efforts. Depending on their tier of service, auxiliaries may participate in activities ranging from public education and community events to traffic control, and operational support.

Volunteer benefits
