Additional charges laid against man in relation to Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material

The Nunavut RCMP Specialized Investigation Team (SIT) has laid additional charges against Danial Norman Legacy (age 35) with offences related to Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material (CSAEM). 

Background: 

In June 2025, the Nunavut RCMP SIT unit began an investigation and identified Legacy as a suspect who was accessing and possessing CSAEM. In January 2026, police arrested Legacy in Gatineau, Quebec and transported him back to Iqaluit, Nunavut. Since his return to Iqaluit, Legacy has remained in custody. 

Police continued their investigation and collected additional evidence related to CSAEM, that are alleged to have occurred in Iqaluit between January 2018 and December 2025. 

On April 20, 2026, the SIT unit charged Danial Norman Legacy (age 35) with the following: 

  • Two counts of Accessing Child Pornography, Section 163.1(4.1) C.C.
  • Two counts of Possession of Child Pornography, Section 163.1(4) C.C.
  • Distribution of Child Pornography, Section 163.1(3) C.C.
  • Two counts of Making Child Pornography, Section 163.1(2) C.C.
  • Two counts of Sexual Interference, Section 151 C.C.
  • Two Count of Sexual Assault, Section 271 C.C.

Legacy is currently remanded in custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 8, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
