All previous steps in the recruiting process will be completed; however, some steps will occur simultaneously or in various order to complete the steps as a faster pace/expediated rate.
Applicant process includes:
1. Online Application: Government of Canada Jobs Website
You will need to create a GC Jobs account to complete your online application.
The RCMP job posting for police officers is on the GC Jobs.
To find the posting:
- Search "police officer" under "Job title"
- Look under the "Jobs open to the public" tab in the search results
You may be screened out of the recruitment process as a result of the responses provided in your online application.
If your application is screened out at this step, you must wait 6 months before re-applying.
If you have questions about the application process, you are encouraged to contact our Recruiting Office bcrcmp_recruiting@rcmp-grc.gc.ca or 778-290-3430 before submitting your online application.
2. Online Presentation
Once you have been screened into the process, you will receive an email containing a link to the mandatory career presentation video.
This mandatory presentation offers an overview of:
the application process, step by step and practical tips on how to prepare
virtual tours of the RCMP Training Academy (Depot)
the core values of the RCMP
Once you have finished watching the video, the assessment will begin. You will have 14 days to complete the online assessment from the date you receive the link.
3. Online Entrance Assessment
The RCMP Online Entrance Assessment is not an exam, but rather an assessment of your personality, behaviour, and cognitive ability.
The RCMP Online Entrance Assessment was designed as a biased-free tool to assess applicants for the RCMP Officer recruiting process. The RCMP Online Entrance Assessment consists of six sections:
- Section 1: Workstyle preference
- Section 2: Language comprehension
- Section 3: Numerical skills
- Section 4: Spatial skills
- Section 5: Memory quotient
- Section 6: Business reasoning
The assessment should take approximately 55-70 minutes to complete. There are several timed portions. It is recommended that you complete the entire assessment in one session.
How do I prepare?
The RCMP Online Entrance Assessment Preparatory Guide has been developed to assist you in preparing to complete the assessment.
Note
You will receive an email from a recruiter that will include the link to the RCMP Online Entrance Assessment. You will have 14 days to complete the online assessment from the date you receive the link.
Application steps
1. Forms Completion (Submitted via Liquid Files when requested)
Once you pass the Online Entrance Assessment you will be emailed the BC RCMP Application Package and you can begin on gathering all the required information.
A strong application begins with a complete and accurate application package. Please ensure each document is filled out completely, accurately, and concisely. False, incomplete, or incorrect information may delay your application or result in disqualification.
Instructions for electronic submission will be provided if you are selected for further processing
2. Police Fitness Assessment (PFA) + Attribute Evaluation Interview
As one of the first steps in your application process you will be required to pass the PFA. To complete the PFA you must have a signed medical clearance (which is part of your application package). Only applicants who are successful in passing the PFA benchmark will proceed to the interview stages.
We will send out regular status inquiries via MS Forms. If you feel that you are ready to run the PFA and complete the Attribute Evaluation Interview, you can respond to the MS Forms Survey. We are looking for the most competitive applicants who will then be invited to attend the recruiting events.
3. Suitability Interview
Once you pass the PFA and the Attribute Evaluation Interview you will be assigned to a recruiter. Your recruiter will reach out to you and provide directions on how to submit your application package via Liquid Files. They will review your application and invite you to a Suitability Interview where they will go over the Regular Member Applicant Questionnaire (RMAQ).
Honesty is an integral part of this process. If the recruiter determines that the applicant is being dishonest or is trying to misrepresent or minimize information, the file will be closed.
4. Pre-Employment Polygraph Interview
You could be asked about the honesty of your answers through the utilization o f a pre-employment polygraph. Applicants can be referred to the polygraph unit or be randomly selected to participate.
5. Health and Psychological Assessment
This portion of the process is divided into two distinct stages. The Psychological Suitability Screening (PSS) and the Medical Screening Process (MSP). You will be required to undergo all the steps of the Psychological Suitability Screening and be deemed psychologically qualified by Suitability before you can move on to complete the Medical Screening Process. The RCMP will cover the cost of these basic assessments.
6. Field Investigation – Security Clearance
The final step in the application process is a field investigation and security assessment. The RCMP will conduct a thorough investigation into your background to help assess your suitability. If successful, you will receive your security clearance.
As part of your application to become an RCMP officer, we'll conduct a thorough background check into your activities during the past 10 years. This investigation will help us determine your reliability and suitability for the job. The investigation concentrates on, but is not limited to:
- previous employment
- education
- neighbourhood inquiries
- friends and associates
- character references
- personal finances
- drug and alcohol use
- online activities
- criminal activities
